Slashsnow

Slashsnow was bored, worse than bored, she was so bored that she decided to chew on some poppy seeds. Not a good idea, she knew, but she was feeling down and bored. She thought back to Raccoonstar. His striped pelt appeared before her, tall and handsome, muscle rippled under his smooth pelt and his face was smiling at her.
Raccoonstar.
If anyone had heard her say his name, they would have been astounded by all of the love, agony, and joy in that one word.
Raccoonstar
Her heart thumped rhythmical to the beat of his song. His song that was directed toward another. Another cat that was not her. Another cat that held the place she wanted - and yet, that cat ignored his love, she just brushed it away like it was nothing important. Couldn't she see that Raccoonstar's love was something precious? Something important to keep? Something that should be coveted?
Moonfire
Resentment coated her voice, making it sound ugly and low. She hated Moonfire, how could she not see Raccoonstar's affection for her? How could she ignore it? She knew that the only reason Moonfire was deputy, was because Raccoonstar loved her. She didn't deserve that role in the clan, if anyone deserved it, it was Gorsefire. Moonfire was an awful cat, she didn't care about the most important things in love - Raccoonstar.

She rested her head on her paws, a single silver tear traveled down onto her cheek, and down onto her paws to the grass. She raised her head a fraction of an inch, looking toward the sky. The sky was gray, perfect weather for her mood. The trees rustled in the breeze, causing her to close her eyes.

Suddenly she heard a sound. She jumped up, as quickly as she could. Her eyes focused on a figure in front of her, and it was getting closer and closer, who was it?

RACCOONSTAR

Raccoonstar noticed Slashsnow. She was crying. He walked over to her, and she had silver tears streaming down her face. "Um, Slashsnow? Something wrong?" he questioned. Why was she so depressed?

Slashsnow

Raccoonstar!
Her beloved Raccoonstar, she quickly shook her pelt to get rid of her tears and looked up into his face. She had wanted to run to him, and lick him, and brush her pelt against his, white with black - it was the perfect combination. However, she restrained herself, and looked down at her paws.
"Um, Slashsnow? Something wrong?" he questioned.
Startled, she looked up into his face, general concern floated on it, nothing deep, just a leader's concern, not a mate's. She was disappointed, and she tried not to show it. He had not come back for her, he was still in love with Moonfire.
"Nothing is wrong!" she stated carefully, "I was just washing my face," she flushed.

Flustered, she looked down at her paws, she felt like an apprentice that had just been scolded.
'Something wrong?' she felt like she had been slapped across the face. He didn't care for her and was oblivious by the fact that she cared for him.

Looking into his face, she saw just plain duty, but underneath, she saw a face that only one cat knew, Moonfire. It was a face of joy and love, shown only to Moonfire - the beautiful. She was just Slashsnow - the unnoticed.

She sighed and sat down again, and turned her face away from him, "What brings you to this border?" she asked stiffly.

RACCOONSTAR

"Just checking on you..." Raccoonstar knew that Slashsnow was lying, and her face had suddenly brightened and then sulked when she saw him. Did she...like him? But...Moonfire was his love...or at least he thought...and if Moonfire chose Thunderheart...could Slashsnow be a substitute? Or was her expression just a figment of her imagination? He shook it off. "Erm...would you like to go on a hunting patrol..sort of? It would just be us...so it's not much of a patrol..." he stammered. Maybe this would solve his problems. And answer his questions.

Slashsnow

Slashsnnow sighed, this would kill her even more, having a patrol with just a them two, and knowing that he didn't love her and it was just a patrol.
"Come on," she meowed regectedly, she padded quickly and smoothly, though her usually bounce in step was no more. She sighed -she seemed to do that a lot these days- Raccoonstar was keeping pace with her, but her was keeping a good distance away. This clan just didn't have the charm it used to have anymore. She pulled ahead, not wanting to see the prize that she was not allowed to win.

"Raccoonstar? Do you love Moonfire?" she put on an amused face. She almost slapped her tail across her mouth, what in StarClan's sake would make her say that? Luckily, she concealed it with amusement, or else she would have made a face. So, since she said it, she decided to stick with it, "Do you?"

RACCOONSTAR

Raccoonstar was surprised at Slashsnow's question, and for a split second, he could think of no answer. "I love all of my Clan as a whole...I am a leader. It's my job." He softly spoke. This satisfied himself in solving a very difficult question. But he knew he would have to come up with a better answer, so his thoughts raced for an answer.

Slashsnow gave him a questioning glance, "Oh, really?" she meowed trying to keep her amused tone, "Are you sure?" she added an amused purr with a bit of laughter to make her seem even more innocent, "So, it's not just my eyes deciving me, whenever you so much as glance at Moonfire? And when Thunderheart's eyes burn with jelousy when you do? Trust me Raccoonstar, I'm not that old!"
she purred, but inside, she was crying, her heart was thumping at a foxes pace, and a cold paw felt like it had slashed through it.

RACCOONSTAR

Raccoonstar could do nothing but say the truth now. He let it all out to her, just to lift the increasingly heavy weight off of his shoulders. "Yes. I know, Slashsnow. I do like Moonfire, but she completely ignores me! I don't know what I'm supposed to do! Thunderheart likes her too, and he seems like a better cat for her....I just don't know anything anymore, Slashsnow. Are you happy now? That you've forced this information out of me? Are you?" He said, trying to keep his voice below a shout.

Slashsnow was awed, he really did love Moonfire! She wanted to scream, to yowl, to pounce at him and rip his fur out until he said that he would love her, or to just say it outright 'I love you!' but she didn't instead she said, "Raccoonstar, can you just be a little more understanding? Can't you see that this is an increasing weight on Moonfire's shoulders? She has so much to think about, who does she like? Well,I'll tell you, she won't like you if you keep hanging over her and separating her from Thunderheart! She can choose who she likes, you don't have to choose for her! Do you really love her?" she asked mad now, "Or are you just blinded by her beauty? Her looks? I wouldn't of judged you to stoop that low Raccoonstar, but then again, I am talking to my leader, who is oblivious to the fact that other people can make important decisions beside him! Just leave her be! She will decide sooner or later! Stop hagging her! She hates it! Can't you see that? You are both making her life miserable, between having you two to handle, and her duty to the clan, it's enough to fall over exhausted. It makes me sick to see a cat like that!" she had wanted to save more, but clamped her mouth shut, how dear she talk to her leader like this? She was always usually shy and timid, keeping to herself. Look! This is what love does to you! she thought to herself, makes you act like a maniac!

As she realized what she had just said, she knew it was true, she felt bad for Moonfire, having to live with that, but then again, she had stolen Raccoonstar's affection, and that could never be forgiven! She looked toward Raccoonstar, awaiting, calmly to see what punishment he would give her for mouthing off like an apprentice, her beloved Raccoonstar......

RACCOONSTAR

"You're right." Raccoonstar said without warning. He'd never interfere with Moonfire's choice or Thunderheart's love. These two words were all that ever needed to be said to Slashsnow.

Slashsnow slighed as she trudged along, she guessed that that was all she was going to get out of Raccoonstar. Her mind raced to think of other topics to talk about.
"Do you think that IvyClan will attack soon?" she blurted out, "I mean-," she quickly covererd up, "At the last gathering, it looked like they were getting ready to attack a clan, beacuse they were gloating on wining the fight agains FrostClan. Althought," she added quickly, "We will find out tonight about them, cause tonight is the gathering and all...," she flushed, she was talking to much, she fell silent

RACCOONSTAR

"I don't know if there is going to be a war. I hope not, that is the last thing SnakeClan needs. But if it happens, I'm sure SnakeClan will be ready." Raccoonstar proudly said. If there was a war, SnakeClan would have to be ready. The Gathering would definately solve that question.

She was choking, her heart felt like it was going to burst, her head was killing, and she felt like her face was going to crack with the effort of trying to smile. She knew exactly what Raccoonstar was getting at, why he trusted his clan to be safe.
"Oh yes," Slashsnow managed to whisper, "With Moonfire in the lead.

"No." He softly spoke. "With you in the lead. You are a great warrior, and you could have more by your side, Slashsnow. Not everything revolves around Moonfire." He made this sound as if they were good friends, and Moonfire was just a background character. This wasn't true, but he let it be for now.

Aww how sweet, he was putting her first! But she knew it was a fluke, and that he was only doing his duty.
"Yes, but she is deputy, she has to be there, or else our clan wil look weak!"
