The Ceremony

[Raccoonstar]

Raccoonstar spoke as he padded toward his Clan. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey come forward for a Clan meeting. It is now time to find a mentor for Eveningpaw. Thunderheart, you will mentor Eveningpaw." He saw Thunderheart bow, then touch noses with Eveningpaw. "Now everyone should get some rest. It's late, and I don't want a tired Clan!" He looked at Moonfire when he said this. He had said the exact same thing to her! He saw his Clan begin to head for their dens, and he took one last glance at Moonfire, then padded back to his den.

Owleye licked her over and over again. "Owleye!" she cried, "I can't wait to see which mentor I'm going to get! Maybe Moonfire?"
"Silly, Moonfire already has a mentor!" she heard her mother say.
"Oh...okay..well, then I want-
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, come forward for a clan meeting!" she heard Raccoonstar yowl.
She gave a little bounce of excitement, "Yes, it's finally here, it's finally here!" she squeaked.
As she walked out of the den, she went to sit by Hazelpaw.
She was going to meow "hi" when Raccoonstar meowed, "It is now time to find a mentor for Eveningkit. "Well," she thought, "Skip right to the point!"
"Eveningkit has reached her sixth moon-" he continued in a loud voice as he beckoned her forward.
"She will be renamed Eveningpaw!"
"Eveningpaw! Eveningpaw! Eveningpaw!" she heard her clanmates shout out loud
Eveningaw was so proud!
"Thunderheart," he meowed, and Eveningpaw's heart pounded with joy, "Your mentor has passed on some extraordinary skills to you, I hope you will mentor Eveningpaw wisely!"
She watched Thunderheart, how was he going to react? Would he like her?

Thunderheart

Thunderheart slowly got up from where he ate alone. What could Raccoonstar want?
As he listened to Raccoonstar talk, he thought sadly a new apprentice. Horray. It wasn't like Raccoonstar would chose him, especially when Moonfire had told him about his 'adventure'.
"And Eveningpaw's mentor will be Thunderheart." Raccoonstar announced. Thunderheart gasped, he was a mentor! He almost looked to Moonfire, but refrained himself. Had she not told their leader about what he had done?! And if she hadn't, why would that be?
He quickly stepped forward to touch noses with Eveningpaw. "I'm going to make you the best warrior ever." He murmured into her ear.
And he meant it.

"Yes!" He liked her! "I will make the best warrior you've ever seen," she vowed also, "One that you can be proud of!"

Her eyes glowed, Thunderheart had an apprentice, finally! Lucky him! She knew he would be a great mentor, as long as he wasn't that lazy anymore. She hadn't told Raccoonstar about his little adventure, but she was sure he had chosen wisely. She would tell him tomorrow after sunrise, this gave her a good reason to tone it down a bit!
She padded over to him, he was getting along with his new apprentice very well.
"Hello, Eveningpaw, Thunderheart," she nodded at them. "Good job, you have earned it, except for that little mishap," she teased, "You will make a good mentor, I see promise in the both of you," she was looking at Eveningpaw and Thunderheart, but her words were meant just for Thunderheart, mostly.

She could tell that those word were not meant for her, she didn't really mind, she just couldn't wait to ask what Moonfire meant when she talked of this little "mishap". Did he disobey the warrior code?

Hazelpaw

Hazelpaw grinned at Eveningpaw. "Hey, maybe we can train together now!" she exclaimed excitedly, nearly tripping over her own paws as she pranced over to her fellow apprentice. "Moonfire said that she would give me my first fighting lesson tommorrow. Or maybe it was the next day..." Hazelpaw trailed off, then grinned again. "Ah, well, I can badger her into it." She flicked her ear to show Eveningpaw that she was joking. "Anyway, congratulations!" she called over her shoulder as she pranced away.

Swifteyes

Swifteyes nodded at Eveningpaw, then padded off without a word. No one noticed him as he quietly slipped out of camp.

Thunderheart

Thunderheart nodded to Moonfire. "Thank you." As Hazelpaw talked to Eveningpaw, he thought over what this meant for him. He had a new responsibly, and he vowed to take it seriously.
"Eveningpaw, you need to get some rest. We start bright and early tomorrow morning. Hazelpaw can help you make a bed in the apprentice den."
Thunderheart took his own advice and walked to the warriors den. He could not wait to fall into a deep sleep.

Brokensnow

Brokensnow meowed to Eveningpaw," You've got a great mentor, y'know. He now cares about you, and should follow his advice." He looked up, and narrowed his eyes. "Swifteyes disappeared," he observed. Brokensnow shrugged, and padded back into the warriors' den. He settled down in his usual spot, tired from the hard day of work.

The Twoleg object glittered harshly in the moonlight. The glare lit against his eyelids, and he squirmed from the light. He opened his amber eyes slowly, and sighed. The object was tinted with red at the end. Once again, he felt guilt. Turning his head away, he sat up, and resettled down into his nest. He tried to fall asleep once more, and succeeded this time.

Eveningpaw! What a marvelous name! She looked sideways at Hazelpaw. She wondered what the apprentice was thinking.
"Hazelpaw," she meowed, "Do you think we could go hunting together tomarrow, or do battle training?" she was really excited! She looked toward her mentor, "Please?!"

Moonfire looked down upon the wildly eager apprentice, that's up to Thunderheart," she meowed, "You need to see the territory first, and memorize were all of the borders are." she concidered the thought a bit, "Well, Hazelpaw, it wouldn't hurt to tag along, you do need to refresh your memory a bit." She started thinking of the time when Hazelpaw thought that IvyClan territory was theirs, "But remember, it's up to Thunderheart!" She looked at the tom, "Well? She's your apprentice!"
