Raccoonstar awoke to a chilly morning in late leaf-fall. He brushed passed his Clanmates' dens and went out for a morning hunt. He blew past the leaves on the ground, searching for breakfast. He finally spotted a large blackbird nibbling a seed. He silently padded closer and closer until he was inches away from the bird. He struck out, instantly killing the bird. He picked it up and brought it back to camp. He saw a thin gray elder thankfully pick it up and swallow it. He went back into his den, where his deputy, Moonfire, sat. "We do not have enough apprentices, Raccoonstar. We need either kitting queens or a new apprentice from outside the camp,"
"The queens will kit. You shall see, Moonfire."
"They better." Moonfire left the den, tail low. Raccoonstar sat in his den, contemplating what Moonfire said. Then, desperately hoping that the queens would kit, he slept, dreaming of endless prey and his Clan by his side.
