Bluesparrow Deep in my heart I know That you love me as much as I love you And that you must be lying somehwere Looking up to heaven too p r a y i n f o r d a y l i g h t r a s c a l f l a t t s Bluesparrow trotted into camp as evening fell, proudly caring a good-sized rabbit. Considering the fact that it was leaf-bare, he was impressed with himself- though he would never admit it. The cold wind tugged at his coat, almost as if asking him to join it on its journey across unknown lands where the clans did not touch. No thanks! he thought to himself, which almost caused him to smile. I like it here where I am, thank you very much. Even though we all fight, something here has a certain- He stopped short, he had just spotted Seastar gazing at the sky as the brightest stars shone through the sunset's fading light. -charm. Bluesparrow was overcome with something that rarely graced his body- shyness. Even though she was clearly not looking at him, he made sure his fur was neat before he carefully placed the rabbit on top of the pile, not wanting to attract attention to himself. Why do I have to be sky around my own leader, like a frightened kit? Part of him wanted to go and talk to her, but what would he say? 'Hey there, I know your body language is giving off every indication that talking to you is the last thing you want, but I think you're amazing and will put myself before you just to make myself happy.' Yea, that would go over well. He wanted to say he was above showing off and flirting, but he desperately wanted to sit and groom himself, with the vain hope that he would catch her eye. No, Bluesparrow. Bad.

Seastar Seastar stared at Silverpelt where the cats of StarClan watched over them. I will soon be with you Pinepaw...my old friend. She smiled and released her gaze with the brightly shining stars. Seastar silently wondered who the tom would be that would father her kits. But it wasn't just about the kits, it was about being loved and loving in return too. Seastar gave up and lowered her head. She had just opened her eyes back up when she spotted Bluesparrow. Her eyes widened. Could he be the one? Seastar jumped from her perch and walked over to the fresh-kill pile to get something to eat. He was standing there too, so maybe an invitation to eat with her would spark something. She looked down and there it was again, another sign. A dead sparrow lay at her paws, it's wing-feathers were tipped blue like it had been dipped in the sky at night. She mustered up her courage and finally asked him. What hurt was it for a leader to talk to her Clanmates anyways? "Hey, want to share this sparrow with me?" She offered. She pricked her ears for any sign of hesitation. But there was none.

Bluesparrow “Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.” t a o t e c h i n d t a o 3 3 Bluesparrow watched as Seastar sprung from her perch like a dove and landed lightly on the ground, lithe form showing her muscle. She walked towards the fresh-kill pile, head held proudly. Bluesparrow looked at his paws, feeling like sighing. His beautiful, headstrong leader wouldn’t notice anyone like Bluespar- “Hey, wanna share this sparrow with me?” Bluesparrow felt like he had dipped his whole head in an icy river. He recovered quickly, and hoped he had kept his face neutral when he uttered the reply “Of course,” Think, Bluesparrow, think. Don’t lose your head, it’s just a bird. He sat next to her and took a single bit, not wanting to seem like a pig. He was really hungry, but it was leaf-bare and he wouldn’t seem like a pig. He studied the bird’s feathers, realizing the wings were tipped in a dark blue. “Well that’s nice, I’m eating myself.” he said to himself, wrapping his tail neatly around his paws.

Seastar "Well that's nice, I'm eating myself." Seastar gave a small laugh as he folded his paws neatly. Seastar stole a big chunk from the bird. He looked nervous to be eating, like he would rather not eat so the leader could. Rediculous! The clan had enough food and food stores to last them until New-leaf. "So, how are the warriors doing this leaf-bare?" Now would be a good chance to start up a small conversation before it becomes awkward. When should she tell him about her heart? How would he react? Would he shun her? Because he was her last chance at kits...unless Cedarwing...no. Just no, she wouldn't think about it. StarClan had sent her a sign with the blue-tinged sparrow about their acceptance. And he was perfect.

Bluesparrow “Deep in my heart I know That you love me as much as I love you And that you must be lying somewhere Looking up to heaven too” p r a y i n f o r d a y l i g h t r a s c a l f l a t t s Bluesparrow thought about that for a moment. Sure, he heard what other warriors were saying, but it never meant much to him. “They’re doing fine, I guess. Cold, of course. There’s something bothering Spottedwing, Rivershadow and Iceglade, and Cedarwing is annoyed about that, but otherwise life seems to be normal.” Man, I doubt she wanted that much information. Why don’t I think before I talk? Bluesparrow thought for a moment, then contradicted himself. Usually I think. Just not when Seastar’s around. He took another small bite of sparrow. I’m still eating myself. When will I ever learn? He thought to his own amusement. What would Seastar think if she could hear his thoughts? He knew what she would think. ’Oh, that Bluesparrow is a weird one. I wonder why Snowstar ever made him a warrior. That’s stupid of him. I know, one day in the woods I’ll sneak up on him and give him a wound so serious he is forced to be an elder and retire, and then never again will I have to visit him and stand his presence. And then in StarClan, longer after we’ve died, I’ll make sure I avoid him. Maybe I’ll banish him to the Dark Forest, so that all the evil cats like Silentstar and Shatteredstar can kill him there. That’s what I’ll do, that makes tons of sense.” Okay, so maybe that was a bit dramatic, but it comforted Bluesparrow to think that way. The sardonic way of thinking was Bluesparrow’s fallback, as long as he didn’t let too much of it shine through. Ask her something! Bluesparrow perked his ears, put a grin on his face, and turned to her, genuinely happy to be in her company. While the conversation didn’t benefit Bluesparrow, he knew others enjoyed chatter more than he did. ”So tell me, is the leader’s den warmer or colder than the warrior’s den? I want to know if there’s some warmer places to sleep, so I can kick whoever owns it now out.” he said playfully, bumping his shoulder lightly with hers.

Seastar Seastar laughed, and laughed and laughed. She'd been so bottled up, so long since she'd laughed for just herself, not for anyone else's concern. She'd put up a show for far too long, and now it was time for herself to let go. All the emotions flooded from her through a laugh or a tear. Seastar began to cry, very quietly, but loud enough that she saw the surprise of Bluesparrow's face. She tried to compose herself quickly, but that wasn't an option. She didn't let out all of her tears, but enough so that she could hold on for some time. "C-come with me, Bluesparrow for a while. I need to tell you something." She murmured. She quickly cleaned her face with the back of her paw, but the back of a paw could not erase the sadness and puffiness of her reddening eyes. She glanced to the side, very few of the warriors were out, just the guard who was very interested in guarding the clan that he had not heard the quiet crying, and Smokeleaf, who's eyes darkened as she saw the sorrow on Seastar's face, but gazed questioningly at Bluesparrow. Seastar gave Smokeleaf a look, I'll explain later, it said. Seastar entered the den, though it was warm and cozy, it felt cold and lonely with the empty and lonely feeling that filled her heart. It had been there her whole life, she just learned to ignore it, at least, all of her leader life. Seastar's heart ached for the kits and mate that she couldn't have before, but now it was possible. And she would certainly do this last thing for her clan. "StarClan has sent me a sign...it's about you, Bluesparrow...and me." Seastar watched for any signs of horror, shock, excitement, bewilderment, happiness...anything.

Bluesparrow “Deep in my heart I know That you love me as much as I love you And that you must be lying somewhere Looking up to heaven too” p r a y i n f o r d a y l i g h t r a s c a l f l a t t s Not what Bluesparrow expected from the evening. Seastar’s laughter had lifted him up, but then her tears scared him. He nosed her shoulder carefully, but she didn’t seem to notice. "C-come with me, Bluesparrow for a while. I need to tell you something." Definitely not where I thought that talk was going. Bluesparrow thought as he slowly followed her to her den. Even leaders aren’t always strong. Seastar looked so depressed, Bluesparrow felt her pain too. It killed him to see any cat so upset, and it made it worse that it was the leader he had loved and respected all his life. "StarClan has sent me a sign...it's about you, Bluesparrow...and me." The blue sparrow? That sounded weird. Not, the sign, but the whole blue sparrow- because I’m Bluesparrow, and there was a blue sparrow- I’m going to shut up now. Bluesparrow thought about it, and thought, and thought. It must have been a full moon before he responded. While he was content to sit in solemn silence, he knew that she was expecting an answer. “Okay. That’s okay.”

Seastar Seastar drew in a deep breath, one for strength and to make her awful hic-coughing stop. "Bluesparrow, there is something that you need to understand about me." Seastar looked him in the eyes, his dark blue eyes meeting hers with tenacity. He was stronger than most, at least mentally. "I am dying." She gave him a few moments to understand. To grasp the complexity of what she just said. "Every few moons or so, I loose a life. My heart is not functioning properly. Going faster, slower or just in an irregular beat. I'm dying of heart attacks. StarClan has given me all the time they could muster. I am to use this time wisely." She hoped he wouldn't be put off with what she was going to say next. "I always wanted kits...even as a young warrior. Every she-cat is equipped with a mind to think about kits, the motherly side of myself wanted to take control. But that wasn't what StarClan wanted. I was to be leader, and had to abandon those irrational thoughts of being a mate, lover and mother. I am using my time given to return lives to FrostClan. I am giving them the kits they need to survive the next moons." Her eyes bore into his, hopefully by staring so intently at him that he would root there into the ground. Her eyes flickered away. Unable to tell him this while looking into his eyes. "StarClan want me to have these kits. And I need a mate...They have chosen you to be my mate, Bluesparrow." She ran her tail along his flank, hoping to give him some comfort at this news. "Of course, it's your choice. But they have chosen you, Bluesparrow. And I believe that we do love each other." She remembered her gaze at him during patrols, his eyes would quickly flutter away, his ears would turn s soft red. Her cheeks would feel hot. "We have always loved each other...it was just...forbidden at the time. A leader with kits? Insane, but now possible with StarClan's blessing." She waited for it to sink in. "Do you love me, Bluesparrow?"

Bluesparrow It hurts when you need me and I can't break your fall It hurts when you can't see it hurts when you're lonely and I'm standing right beside you there And it hurt when you told me that you'd tried this on your own Hope you never hurt Hope you never cry Hope you never lose your way tonight Hope you never crumble Hope you never fall Hope you never throw away it h u r t t h o u s a n d f o o t k r u t c h After the initial shock of her slow dying, Bluesparrow almost didn’t hear what she said next. My leader, dying. But then his father’s rough voice found its way into his head. Darkfeather’s last words danced around him. ‘I may be dying, Bluesparrow, but we all do in the end. There is nothing to fear in death.’ Nothing to fear in death. Bluesparrow would make sure that Seastar never feared. “Do you love me?” she asked. “Of course.” he answered without a second’s hesitation. He moved forward and rubbed Seastar’s head with his. ”It’ll be okay.”

Seastar Seastar accepted his comfort. She had a mate! And one who loved her like she loved him. Her unspoken prophecy will be fulfilled at last. And within the next year, she will become one with StarClan for the final time. "I love you." Said Seastar. She nuzzled with him and scooted as close as she could get. Finally allowing herself to calm down. She's going to be okay, the Clan will be okay, her kits will be born in the safety of this Clan under her own choice of deputy, Cedarwing. Everything will be in balance. Finally.
