Phases of the Moon

Once, back when the Clans where prosperous and had no quarrels, there was a queen named Jaderiver. Jaderiver admired the moon so much she would stay up each night to watch the moon. When her kits were born, she had only one- a beautiful she-cat who was as beautifully silver as the moon itself. Jaderiver named her only kit after the moon she loved so much. Moonkit was loved by everyone in her clan, and even cats from other clans.
The moon saw Moonkit as a gift to her, and cherished Moonkit like she was her own daughter. The moon made sure that Moonkit became the best warrior that she could ever be. When Moonkit became an apprentice, the moon watched over her and Moonpaw became stronger than all the other apprentices. When it came time for Moonpaw to be given her name, the moon appeared to Moonpaw’s leader and instructed him to name Moonpaw Moonsong. The leader did as was instructed, and Moonsong quickly became the best warrior in all the clans- and the prettiest, too. The young, strong, beautiful warrior was loved by all and the moon came to Moonsong in a dream- if she could become deputy, the moon would let her stay young and loved forever. However, if she failed, the moon would be forced to take Moonsong’s life. Moonsong, being very arrogant as usual, agreed.
The only tom who did not seem to be awestruck by Moonsong’s silverly light was the deputy, Shadowheart. Shadowheart was very smart, and saw past Moonsong’s greatness and saw her flaws and fears. He felt great sorrow for her. When the leader died and Shadowheart became Shadowstar, everyone thought the best choice for the new deputy was Moonsong. The moon wanted Moonsong to become deputy and eventually leader, because she loved Moonsong. She went to Shadowstar in his dreams and told him her wishes, but Shadowstar bluntly resfused.
On the day it was time for him to choose the new deputy, the clan made their wishes known as well. “Moonsong! Moonsong!” they all called. Moonsong walked elegantly to Shadowstar. “I agree with them, Shadowstar.” She sang insolently. “If you make me deputy, I assure you that you will not be disappointed.”
Shadowstar knew Moonsong’s weaknesses and knew she did not have what it took to be a deputy, let alone a leader. “No, Moonsong. I would be very disappointed if I had you as my deputy. You cannot see past your own beauty to see what others need. You cannot support the clan correctly.” Moonsong’s look of horror was plastered onto her face. In Shadowstar’s eyes, she looked her ugliest right then – bitter, self-centered, and horribly conceited. Shadowstar turned away from the ugly sight and towards Rocksting, a small and quiet tom. “Rocksting will be my deputy.”
Moonsong was struck down on the spot. The moon was true to her promise; however, she was terribly upset. The moon disappeared at night for a full year. Every night, pitch black swallowed the forest.
However, when a young apprentice by the name of Echopaw was ready to become a warrior, Shadowstar promised to make it up to the moon. Echopaw was everything Moonsong was, except arrogant. Shadowstar named her Echomoon, an echo of the moon’s beloved Moonsong. The moon agreed, but said that every time the day came about that Moonsong was killed, the moon would disappear in mourning. That is why the moon goes through its phases.

When I think of Jaderiver, I think of Jadestar. When I think of Moonsong, I think of Moonfire. When I think of Echomoon, I think of Echospirit. When I think of Shadowstar, I think of Rivershadow. Lolwut my thoughts are based on the first part of their names. XD Personalities aren't even close for most of 'em.

I....LOVE IT KAT!!! lol! ^^ I seriously love it cause I just do. lol! There's no way to explain it but I really like it. ^-^ Maybe eventually you guys get to see some of my story work up there. lol! If only I could make a short story. -.-'
